DANIEL STRAUB (he/him) is an award-winning Los Angeles based director and producer who has worked in documentary for more than 10 years. With a sharp eye for stories that give form to environmental racism, injustice in the healthcare system, and other insidious issues, Daniel has dedicated his career to using film and television as a vehicle for driving systemic change.
When Daniel isn’t directing, you may find him hiking with his dog in the Eastern Sierras, drinking coffee, developing new projects, coloring, writing about himself in the third person, or seeking representation.

OUT OF PLAIN SIGHT is a cinematic exposé of an environmental disaster lurking just off the coast of Southern California.
Daniel directed and produced OUT OF PLAIN SIGHT, a feature-length documentary for the Los Angeles Times with his frequent collaborator and brother, Emmy® Award winning director of photography Austin Straub, and L.A. Times Environmental Reporter and Pulitzer Prize Finalist Rosanna Xia.
The film had its world premiere on November 16, 2024 at DOC NYC and continued its festival run at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival where it was won the Audience Choice Award. The inaugural Slamdance Film Festival in Los Angeles selected it as the Opening Night film in the Egyptian Theatre, and DCEFF selected it as the Closing Night film, where it was recognized with the Shared Earth Foundation Award. Out of Plain Sight was also awarded Best Feature at the International Wildlife Film Festival. The Jury called it, “a gripping and urgent exposé” with “courageous storytelling, revelatory reporting, and lasting impact.”
Scott Z. Burns, producer of An Inconvenient Truth, called the film “haunting, enraging, and a vital addition to environmental storytelling.”
